A microchip tag has a unique tamper proof identity number. This tag can be inserted into the saddle via the flocking holes. or attached to the tree if the saddle is being re-flocked.
This gives the saddle a unique number which can be read via radio waves onto a hand held scanner.
Scanners are widely distributed throughout the UK police forces and with Saddle-trac agents who scan the saddle and find out who is the registered owner.

Inclusion on The National Saddle Register is part of th Saddle=Trac package. Each microchip registration is issued with an official document giving legal proof of ownership. This document can be updated at any timeshould there be any changes to the registered owner.
Details of any lost or stolen saddles are posted on the Saddle-Trac Lost Property Register to which all police forces and approved Saddle-Trac centres have access to on a 24/7 basis. It displays restricted information of the saddle make and any ID marks, microchip number, owners surname, crime reference number and the police station handling the loss. Cash convertors and other sources are also informed.
Packs contain fitting guide for standard saddles so can be sold as a DIY kit, further fitting instructions can be sent via E-mail for western saddles, Air saddles etc.
